Rabbit Adoption

Rabbit Adoption

is easy and cost of the setup of the equipment low cost and quick.

For Rabbit Adoption you need to be able to keep your bunnies in your home during the evening and night. This is for the rabbit's safety as well as to ensure that the bunny is included in the family as a little furry family member.  Having a bunny or two in the home is a delightful experience and one we think will last a long time. That is what we are after. A long time home for our bunnies where they are not just a caged animal at the bottom of the garden but a valuable part of the household.

Rabbit Adoption equipment is as follows:

1. a playpen 30" high with human size gate (not a tiny bunny gate)
having a human gate means you can enter without having to climb over the pen fence.
2. a litter tray with pet litter inside it
3. a hay rack or bag to hang from playpen fence
4. ceramic food and water bowls
5. a tiny kennel or a cardboard box or a short pet tunnel

Where to buy the Rabbit Adoption equipment:

We recommend the playpens on the Pet Homes Direct website. Click here
For your litter tray you can buy a large size one at a cheap shop or a pet shop & also the bowls
You can make a hay bag from a fabric shopping bag and cut a hole in lower front
For the kennel we recommend the HoundHouse Rabbit Size Kennel.

Rabbit Adoption

Thank you for considering adoption. Every rabbit adopted makes a space for us to rescue another abandoned rabbit.

Adopt a Rabbit from our available rabbits gallery.

Most of our rabbits are young because most rabbits are abandoned before their first year. This happens due to impulse buying of tiny baby rabbits in pet shops. Rabbits make wonderful house pets if care is taken to understand their needs and behaviours.

We love to assist with that and provide ongoing support. Our bunnies come to you Desexed and vaccinated. We can deliver to most places. If you live near us or are passing through we welcome you to book a visit.

Hoppy Easter to All Bunny People

The Rabbit Sanctuary would like to wish all our bunny parents and supporters a Hoppy Easter!

Many tiny baby rabbits will today be presented to children as gifts for Easter.

Often these 'gifts' are abandoned to pounds, shelters or dumped when the tiny cute bunny becomes a hormonal rabbit.

Most abandoned rabbits that come into The Rabbit Sanctuary are less than one year old.

To help us rehome the rabbits abandoned after Easter please spread the word about rabbit adoption.

Fluffy Angoras

OLDEST RABBIT

This is our oldest resident MARSHMALLOW who is close to 10 years old now.  She is a Netherland Dwarf breed of rabbit.

She was a QLD magician's rabbit.  She grew too old for the magic act so her owner surrendered her to The Rabbit Rescue Sanctuary.  In Queensland the magicians are allowed up to two rabbits. Because she grew too old for the show the magician wanted to replace her with a younger rabbit which she did by buying one from a pet shop over the QLD border in Tweed Heads.

We figured that MARSHMALLOW had done enough to service people with all her life spent entertaining children and adults so we provided her a permanent residence status at the Rabbit Sanctuary.

She spends her days mostly sleeping and lazing about.  Other rabbits show great respect for her as if they know she is old and needs her peace and quiet to live out her days.

Rabbit Enclosure

This is a photo of a playpen on the lawn at The Rabbit Sanctuary. Archie and Jorden are two male bunnies up for adoption to loving homes where they will be part of the household and valued family members. The rabbit playpen can be set up in the family area of your home and carried outside on the lawn when you have time to supervise. The little RabbitHouse by HoundHouse makes a wonderful hidey hole.
